DGNB Ideenlabor – Nachhaltigkeit by Design | Zirkuläre Materialien in der Infrastruktur

While in building construction projects it has increasingly become common practice to discuss the many aspects of sustainable and circular construction, transport infrastructure – including bridge construction – tends to remain under the public radar. Does this mean that less is happening in this field? Or are the potentials for climate and resource protection perhaps already being better utilized in the infrastructure sector?

The DGNB Ideas Lab takes a realistic look at the current state of construction practice in the infrastructure sector. To what extent are sustainability and circularity already being implemented? How high are the reuse rates? And what can the building sector still learn from infrastructure construction?

At the beginning, several practical impulses will provide an honest assessment of the current situation. In the second part of the Ideas Lab, participants are also actively invited to contribute and share their knowledge and perspectives. The joint hosts of this year’s Ideas Lab are the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB e.V.) and the Circle – Hub for Urban Mining.

The DGNB Ideas Lab format in brief:

With the format launched in 2023, we set out to search for the “white spots on the map” of sustainable construction. Together, we aim to identify relevant topics and questions that are essential for the transformation of the construction and real estate sector but are not yet in focus today. We want to make knowledge visible and find solutions to open questions.

The format is based on the principles of collective intelligence and creativity. Everyone is invited to contribute their own knowledge and perspective. Discussions can be lively and even controversial. Open-ended, yet constructive. Critical, yet solution-oriented.

German Sustainable Building Council: The DGNB is a non-profit organisation with more than 2,700 member organisations from all areas of the construction and real estate sector. We take responsibility and do our part to make sustainability and climate protection the new normal. As a content-driven solution provider, we show the way forward to all those who are ready to move in this direction.
