Designed in Hanau
Städtische Museen Hanau
Hanau's history is steeped in a wealth of innovative design ideas:
Still lifes and silver and gold smithing, the design of faience and tobacco packaging, Jack Wolfskin outdoor clothing and the industrial design of Lars Contzen, who designed wallpaper, furniture, toothpaste, flooring, lamps and even prefabricated houses. At the same time, world-renowned industrial and product designers such as Christian Dell, Peter Raacke and Wilhelm Wagenfeld were trained at the local art academy. We associate them with the Kaiser idell 6556 designer lamp, the mono cutlery set, the Wagenfeld lamp and the Lufthansa melamine tableware. The exhibition presents pioneering designs created in Hanau, as well as their developments and their impact on industry, everyday life, society and politics.
The Hanau Municipal Museums are a public institution whose core mission is to preserve, research and communicate Hanau's cultural heritage. We work together with, for example, Radwerk, the German Goldsmiths' House, the Hessian Forestry Museum, the Drawing Academy and the Brothers Grimm Vocational Academy.
