- Design and Implementation of Future Community Spaces
December 2026
Institut für Selbstorganisation / Café Rabe

The project aims to make community a tangible experience. This is done through collective, open-to-the-public construction and design days focused on the open neighborhood space at Jordanstraße 3 and its surrounding public areas.
The implementation serves as a model: it is intended to be exemplary and replicable. In this way, we want to explore “future community spaces” as democratic seeds in a practical manner. What will future places of encounter and exchange look like? The goal is to practice forward-looking processes of mutual support, collective design, and participatory decision-making.
Through concrete projects such as greening facades, building a parklet, modular interior design, installing a rainwater storage tank, and setting up fold-away public seating, we aim to bring self-participation and collectivity to life. In doing so, we achieve motivating results that enhance the neighborhood. Invitations to participate in the process will be issued publicly and well in advance.
The projects are to take place in and around the area of Jordanstraße 3 in Bockenheim, as we already have local knowledge here and existing networks with residents and local initiatives, which enables synergies. We plan to document the results photographically and to establish connections with other neighborhoods.
Der Rabe is a self-organized neighborhood café in Frankfurt-Bockenheim. It serves as a meeting place and event venue for various initiatives and individuals active in the neighborhood.
We stand for a society in which everyone can be different without fear.
