Design and Implementation of Future Community Spaces

2026

Institut für Selbstorganisation

The project aims to make community tangible. This is achieved through collective, open construction and design days in the open neighbourhood space at Jordanstraße 3 and its public surroundings.

The implementation is model in nature: it should be exemplary and transferable. In this way, we want to take a practical look at ‘future community spaces’ as democratic nuclei. What will places of encounter and exchange look like in the future?

The aim is to practise forward-looking processes of mutual support, collective design and co-determination. Concrete projects such as greening facades, building an open tree house, constructing a parklet, modular interior design, installing a rainwater storage tank and erecting fold-away public seating will bring self-participation and collectivity to life. The aim is to achieve motivating results that enhance the neighbourhood. The public will be invited to participate in the process at an early stage.
