Demokratische Lieblingsorte in Frankfurt

2026

Amelie Persson

The project invites people from Frankfurt and the surrounding region to discover their favorite democratic places. Five workshops are planned with ten local artists specializing in the theme, involving around 250 participants in total.

Under expert guidance, participants can get creative without pressure for perfection, capturing their places through drawing or painting – either during the workshop or with the DIY “Workshop to go.” On paper, anything is possible: accessible, open, and inspiring. The program encourages people of different ages and backgrounds to consciously engage with their surroundings, discover favorite places, and make them visible to others. It also reveals gaps – missing or vanished places – that can serve as starting points for collective, local, or political engagement.

The workshops are designed as empowering experiences: creating together, experiencing self-efficacy, sharing responsibility, and building networks. Additionally, a “Workshop to go” will be developed – a fold-out guide featuring examples of illustrated democratic places along with instructions for sketching or describing one’s own favorite place. This offer is freely accessible and invites everyone to actively participate.

Amelie Persson is an artist and author. Her drawings often depict urban environments. The illustrated anthology she edited, ‘Lieblingsorte in Frankfurt’ (Societäts-Verlag), brings together 20 Frankfurt-based illustrators and their views of Frankfurt. Together, they run the workshops.
