- Demokratie Wagen

The Democracy Carriage embodies the vision of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026: bringing people together, connecting perspectives, and making democracy visible in everyday life. This specially designed ET430-series S-Bahn train reflects the WDC’s core theme, Design for Democracy, and will operate as part of the regular service across the Rhine-Main region.
By prompting discussion on social issues such as diversity, participation, the common good and sustainability – featured on stickers and posters in the S-Bahn – the organisers are encouraging passengers to engage in the debate and to recognise and appreciate the value of democracy for society.
The Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV), the Rhine-Main S-Bahn and World Design Capital Frankfurt Rhine-Main 2026 (WDC) unveiled the ‘Democracy Carriage’ as a joint project at Frankfurt Central Station on 22 June 2026.
More than just transport
Public transport is more than just a way of getting from A to B. It connects people and provides access to work, education, culture and leisure. In this way, it enables participation across the entire region. The new ‘Democracy Carriage’ is part of the joint campaign ‘Public transport holds our region together’, which highlights the role public mobility plays in participation and social cohesion. As the official mobility partner of the World Design Capital Frankfurt Rhine-Main 2026, the RMV, together with the S-Bahn Rhein-Main, is supporting the visibility and accessibility of the numerous projects and events in the region.
The rapid transit map serves as a visual guide, linking the events and themes of World Design Capital 2026 with the diverse realities of life in the region. It illustrates how mobility connects people, places, and ideas—every day, whether commuting to work, school, or university, or traveling during leisure time.
The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) is one of Germany’s largest transport associations and the central mobility service provider for the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region. As the official networking partner of World Design Capital 2026, it ensures the mobility of millions of people every day, thereby enabling social participation, interaction, and cohesion.
