The task is clear: Find the DemokraTier! This student competition invites 8–10-year-olds to explore the values of democracy in their classrooms with creativity, imagination, and teamwork. Fairness, courage, and community come to life in playful, colorful ways.

What would a DemokraTier look like? This question lies at the heart of the student competition for all 3rd and 4th graders in the metropolitan region. In their classrooms, children develop ideas for their own DemokraTier; a creature that embodies fairness, courage, and community. They can draw, craft, or model it; creativity has no limits. Through thinking, laughing, and creating together, democracy becomes tangible and fun.

The competition is announced at the end of November 2025 via local school authorities. In January and February, students have time to bring their imaginative creatures to life. Submissions are due by March 6, 2026. A panel of experts reviews all entries, and the winners are celebrated on April 22 at the “Festival der DemokraTiere,” with attractive prizes. The most inventive and amusing DemokraTiere will then go on a travelling exhibition across the region.
