Darmstädter Gespräch "Mensch und Welt"

2026

Fachbereich Gestaltung und Fachbereich Architektur der Hochschule Darmstadt, Werkbundakademie Darmstadt, Jazzinstitut Darmstadt

The ‘Darmstadt Dialogue’ planned for 2026 follows on from the ‘Darmstadt Dialogues’ in both spirit and form. After the end of the Second World War, the Darmstadt Dialogues sought philosophical, artistic and creative ways to lead humanity out of its self-imposed immaturity and into a new world of coexistence.

If it seemed necessary at that time to redefine humanity and the world and thus reopen them, it seems equally imperative to us today to ask about a dignified future for humanity as a whole.

The project is divided into five sections that reflect the range of topics covered by the entire event: 1) ‘Image of humanity and world view,’ 2) ‘Humanity and the natural world,’ 3) ‘Humans and the Cultural World,’ 4) ‘Humans and Humans,’ and 5) ‘Economics for Humans and the World.’ International and national personalities will be invited to participate in the discussions, exhibitions, and concerts for each section.

All discussions are open to the public and will involve audience participation; they will be recorded and made available free of charge for listening. To ensure that all participants are focused on the same issues, a book manifesto will be jointly compiled in advance, in which the critique of the crisis will be given concrete conceptual form, which the ‘Darmstadt Dialogue’ will then refer back to during the course of the event. All exhibitions will be accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue featuring the works on display and views of the locations to be visited.
