The Alps are a unique living environment—and a region where sustainable building is especially crucial. This is where the Constructive Alps award comes in: since 2011, the Swiss Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE) and the Principality of Liechtenstein have recognized outstanding building projects that set new standards in ecological, social, and design quality. The focus is on renovations and new constructions that use regional materials, efficient energy systems, and a sensitive approach to landscape and culture.
The need for action in the Alpine region is significant: many buildings are outdated in terms of energy performance and consume excessive resources. Constructive Alps demonstrates how it can be done better—with architecture that enhances quality of life while protecting the climate.
The exhibition Constructive Alps, presented as part of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain at Danziger Platz, brings these forward-thinking projects to life. Featuring selected award winners, it showcases innovative solutions and concrete examples of sustainable building practices. The exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the Alps as a place where sustainable architecture is not just an idea, but a lived reality.
The exhibition is organized by the Consulate General of Switzerland in Frankfurt am Main, which is part of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).
The exhibition content is based on a curatorial project by the Swiss Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE), a specialized agency within the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC), in collaboration with the Alpine Museum of Switzerland ALPS, Bern.
