Babbelturm

2026

Hochbauamt und Amt für Soziales, Landeshauptstadt Wiesbaden

In the immediate vicinity of the Schelmengraben district centre, a housing estate designed by Ernst May, there is an intercultural garden that brings together users from different backgrounds.

A new meeting place is to be built on the site of the dilapidated community centre, both for users of the allotments and for all other residents of the neighbourhood.

The Babbelturm is being planned in a series of workshops. Users, students and trainees with a background in construction come together to develop their creative ideas. The participatory project is supported by experts from the construction sector and social workers from the district centre.

The common goal for everyone involved is an open and constructive process of constant interdisciplinary exchange of perspectives with the shared aim of designing and realising a new sustainable building. Even after completion, the Babbelturm is intended to be a place where people can come together and communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders.
