In his exhibition 'Ashes of Modernism', Marc Trautmann presents large-format projections of photographs documenting the remaining structures of modern architecture that fell victim to the devastating Los Angeles fires of January 2025. These buildings embodied the ideals of the Californian avant-garde: openness, light, social visions, and a life in harmony with the landscape. 'Ashes of Modernism' captures what was lost—and raises the question of how we deal with architectural heritage when the conditions of our environment fundamentally change.
Frankfurt-based architect Eckart von Schwanenflug will give an introductory talk at the exhibition's opening.
Trautmann's photographs can also be seen as part of the exhibition series one artist // one wall during the weekend in the saasfee*pavillon.

Since its founding in 2008, the saasfee*pavillon has been one of Frankfurt's leading independent platforms for contemporary art, media, and electronic music. Emerging from the artist collective saasfee, which formed in the early 1990s during the digital age, the pavilion has since connected innovative artistic positions with interdisciplinary projects and media installations, forming an internationally growing network. Curated by saasfee*, the pavilion presents a programme dedicated to discovering and showcasing emerging trends.
