Architektur trifft Design – Suffizienz im Fokus

2026

DGNB e.V. – Wissensstiftung / Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen

Today, architecture and design face the challenge of combining aesthetics, function and sustainability. Sufficient design means using resources consciously, employing materials in a targeted manner and developing durable, functional solutions.

The SHIFT initiative shows that the answers for climate- and culture-adapted construction often lie in the Global South: buildings and neighbourhoods that use local materials, strengthen social structures and adapt to the climate offer models for truly sustainable architecture. This perspective gives rise to spaces and products that are not only beautiful, but also ecologically and socially responsible.

About the event format:

With the Ideas Lab event format, launched in 2023, we are setting out to find the blank spots on the map of sustainable construction. Together, we want to identify relevant topics and issues for the success of the transformation in the construction and real estate sector. We want to make knowledge visible and find solutions to open questions.

The format is based on the principles of swarm intelligence and creativity. Everyone is asked to contribute their own knowledge and perspective. Things can get wild and controversial. Open-ended, but constructive. Critical, but goal-oriented.

German Sustainable Building Council: The DGNB is a non-profit organisation with more than 2,700 member organisations from all areas of the construction and real estate sector. We take responsibility and do our part to make sustainability and climate protection the new normal. As a content-driven solution provider, we show the way forward to all those who are ready to move in this direction.
