Why is Frankfurt located on the river?
The aquanauten workshop invites primary school children to discover water as a habitat, resource and place of longing for people, animals and plants. With workshops integrated into everyday school life, the river can be experienced as a lifeline for humans and animals.
The former Frankfurt fish market halls are an ideal location. Here, history, nature and urban culture intertwine. Their location directly on the Main River and their historical connection to fishing, waterways and supply make them THE place to make the connection to climate justice: access to clean water, the impact of climate change on waterways, ecosystems, cities worldwide, and why should we care?
The site is centrally located, easily accessible and leads directly to the Main River via a wide, flat staircase. Through cooperation with committed partners, the location is becoming a lively social and cultural spot.
Exciting guided discovery tours with torches introduce visitors to the atmosphere of the Fischerhallen. Here, the connection to fish and river ecology is made. With chalk, stencils and a lot of imagination, ‘Main fish’ find their way from the river into the halls via canals, floors and walls, just as they once did. Further playful experiments on water quality, filtration or urban water storage can be added in modules.
The workshops take place indoors and outdoors and have a visible impact. The project has a high chance of remaining in the Fischerhallen.
