The studio is open to anyone who loves sustainable design. Klein und fein: Upcycling Live shows how old fabrics and scraps are transformed into unique cushions and home accessories – with plenty of handiwork and attention to detail.
What to expect:
Live insights: Sabine Schmitt will be working on a new piece right in front of you and explaining how she selects and processes materials.
Mini-workshop: Join Sabine Schmitt in embroidering a small pattern onto a piece of fabric – the results will later be combined to create a communal cushion.
Cushions to touch: A selection of Sabine Schmitt's favourite pieces (including some made from Shweshwe cotton) and ‘work-in-progress’ projects.
Chats & snacks: Over coffee and tea, you can ask questions or simply watch as ‘waste’ is transformed into treasures.
Sabine Schmitt believes that good design should not only be beautiful, but also responsible. Every cushion tells a story – come by and become a part of the history.
apfelgrün is a Frankfurt-based sustainable design label founded by Sabine Schmitt. Through handmade, upcycled cushions and home accessories made from leftover materials, Sabine Schmitt combines traditional craftsmanship with modern circular economy principles. Her focus lies on local production, transparency and the beauty of imperfection. She demonstrates how small-scale, responsible design works – through interactive formats such as live upcycling.
