In a tent made of black yurt cot tarpaulins, a discussion on the topic of "tent" takes place. The tent is created directly in front of it as a participatory performance. A small team of architecture students from Darmstadt, architects, designers and scouts – and guests – are involved.

The tent grows out of the room onto the street – and disappears completely after the end of the event. The exact form will be decided depending on the situation and weather, in discussion with all parties involved.

In the first phase of the project, models and the ideas of architecture students from Darmstadt and scouts will be developed in a workshop.
Simple knots, knotting and guying techniques can be taught. The funds are deliberately limited to tarpaulin, rope, wood and local conditions.

The topic of the panel is the "tent" as an ancient and very contemporary form of housing. It serves as accommodation for refugees. It promises the wealthy work-life balance and closeness to nature. It designs Olympic ensembles. It is mobile, flexible and tends to be environmentally friendly. With the scouts, it's modular. It forms the identity of a youth movement.

The conversation is intended to make these aspects understandable. The aim is to create a perspective of the tent as a form and as a commodity.

Andreas Buss (Architectural Historian / Architect; Zurich)

Kilian Frank (Designer, Pfadfinder)
