In Greek mythology, there are the 12 gods of Olympus: Apollo, Hermes, Aphrodite, Ares, Hephaestus, Hestia, Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Artemis, and Athena – above the clouds, and their stories are still reflected in the celestial bodies today because the planets still bear their names:

ΑΦΡΟΔΙΤΗ Aphrodite as Venus or ΑΡΗΣ Ares as Mars.

But other cultures also tell fascinating stories: the ancient Egyptians associated the stars with gods and otherworldly journeys, the Mesopotamians saw signs and oracles in the celestial patterns, and in Norse mythology gods danced across the firmament.
