„Stricheln und Sticheln – Satire in der Krise der Demokratie“ zu Gast in Offenbach

From 8 to 27 August, the travelling exhibition ‘Stricheln und Sticheln – Satire in the Crisis of Democracy’ by the Caricatura Museum in Frankfurt will be on display in the foyer of Offenbach Town Hall. The exhibition, which explores the current state of democracy in Germany, features cartoons by Katharina Greve, Greser & Lenz, Hauck & Bauer, as well as satirical poems by Thomas Gsella – all of whom are among the leading figures in the German satirical scene. Their work appears regularly in publications such as *Titanic*, the *FAZ* and the *FASZ*.

In a democracy under pressure, our society and its internal cohesion face major challenges. Satire can provide impetus and open the door to dialogue, whilst also serving as a relieving factor in heated debates. It highlights the democratic nature of a society, particularly at points of social tension. Laughter helps – especially in times of crisis.

The exhibition will be officially opened on Friday, 7 August, at 6 pm with welcoming remarks by Andreas Bruszynski, Mayor of Offenbach am Main, Dr Susanne Völker, Managing Director of the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain, and Martin Sonntag, Director of the Caricatura Museum Frankfurt. All interested parties are warmly invited to the exhibition opening.

The exhibition is open to the public free of charge during the town hall’s opening hours.

“Stricheln und Sticheln” is a travelling exhibition organised by the Caricatura Museum Frankfurt in collaboration with the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain and the City of Offenbach am Main as part of WDC 2026 and the 80th anniversary of Hesse. WDC 2026 is funded by the State of Hesse, the City of Frankfurt am Main and the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain.
