Schmackofatz on Tiles – A Table for Democracy is a culinary installation in which design, gastronomy, craftsmanship, and human interaction come together on equal footing. Small dishes served on handmade ceramic tiles become the starting point for a democratic practice unfolding across a long communal table.

The ceramic tiles are more than mere serving surfaces — they are essential design elements that symbolize individuality within a collective whole. Visitors are invited to move freely through the space, discover new flavors, and engage in conversation with others. Each tile, each table, and each encounter becomes part of an open, polyphonic togetherness in which the architecture of everyday life can be experienced anew.

In this way, a space emerges where food, exchange, and design merge into a shared experience — many small tables forming one large democratic structure.

A PYRAMID OF TILES celebrates handmade ceramic tiles and the creative potential they hold. “SCHMACKOFATZ,” a project by architect Christina Chalupsky and chef Christian Wassmus, brings good food and good encounters together – sometimes in the tile studio, sometimes out and about. Always wherever people are curious to grab a bite and enjoy a conversation.
