The performing arts are, by their very nature, rooted in community – as collective works created in close collaboration. They also rely on an even broader sense of togetherness with their audiences.

WHO with WHOM asks about these webs of relationships, which can be newly formed and fresh, or decades old. The actions and attitudes of others – past and present – shape the way we respond in life and the ways we perform in art. Who has influenced our lives? Who shapes, challenges, or inspires our society? And from whom (or what) do we prefer to keep our distance?

Alliances must, on the one hand, be carefully considered. On the other, we need empowering coalitions – now more than ever. Together with many guests, this year’s MADE.DATE invites us to sit around the table and explore these questions.
