KOMMUNIKATIVE! Design, Education, City, Society – Institute for New Technical Form, 18 October to 7 November 2026

A collaboration between the Department of Design at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and the Heinrich Böll Foundation Hesse. Curated by Tobias Katz, Gesa Foken and Christian Driesen.

The understanding of design shaped by industrialisation is characterised by an awareness of opportunities for social participation. Young designers in particular are guided by a civic-minded approach to design and use their design-based capabilities to further develop a democratic society. The exhibition KOMMUNIKATIVE! showcases final-year and course projects from Darmstadt, Würzburg and Düsseldorf – Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences/Department of Design; Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences/Faculty of Design; Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences/Peter Behrens School of Arts Düsseldorf/Department of Architecture – and opens up the exhibition space for workshops, lectures and discussions with the wider community.
