Entfestival

The format of "Entfestigung" questions the preservation of fortifications through art, not on the basis of historical material, but with a view to future use. In doing so, "Entfestigung" turns current monument preservation practice on its head and offers new perspectives on human-centred cultural heritage protection.

As part of WDC 2026, the project is celebrating the 870th anniversary of Staden Water Castle in 61197 Florstadt. To mark the occasion, the "Entfestival" on 6 June 2026 invites visitors to Wetterau to participate in design workshops, exhibition contributions and a discourse and video art programme. The aim is to raise awareness of and revitalise the castle ruins by jointly ‘preserving’ the dilapidated roof as a community space that promotes democracy. To this end, the project team led by Adam Langer, Rike Silz and Max Weisthoff is collaborating with local stakeholders, Constructlab e.V. and invited monument preservation experts and artists. The team welcome interested parties and participants of all ages and backgrounds.
