Your neighbor has a camera at their front door. Your colleague at the railway wears a bodycam. Your children talk to an AI more often than to you. And somewhere in between, the same questions keep arising: Where does freedom end, and where does control begin? And how do we negotiate these boundaries when our answers differ?
This afternoon, you will explore a different way of handling social tension using the Deep Democracy method developed by Lewis, an approach where a "no" is not seen as a disruption. You do not rush to find consensus or decide who is right. Instead, you make diverse voices visible - including those that are contradictory, uncomfortable, or quiet. You'll examine what becomes possible when different perspectives are given space.
In the historic jury courtroom at Heimathafen Wiesbaden, the focus is not on passing judgment, but on negotiation: What happens when different needs and ideas collide? How can we shape diversity so that it does not automatically lead to division?
More information:
- No prior knowledge is required. All that is needed is curiosity, a perspective of your own, and a willingness to truly listen to others.
- The Heimathafen has good public transport links. The building is wheelchair accessible.
Heimathafen and the Heimathafen Impact Alliance connect stakeholders from civil society, politics, public administration, the business sector, and academia in Wiesbaden and the RheinMain region. Together, they are developing a space for exchange, business and social innovation at the "Altes Gericht" (Old Courthouse). The project is supported by Deep Democracy expert Sara Münnich.
